A Warning To Visitors

Be careful when you walk off the road, or the next step you take may very well be your last. Don't forget, Duquesne was a mining town and the area has serveral open mine shafts.

Mine Shaft

I read in the Arizona Daily Star a couple of years back, "from the 1880's to the 1980's about three million tons of rock were mined in Santa Cruz County," primarily for copper, silver and gold. The article said that 15.5 million ounces of silver and 82,000 ounces of gold were found in the county.
